Changi restores connectivity as cargo dips in 2022
Cargo flows at Singapore Changi Airport dipped slightly in 2022 no thanks to global economic uncertainty and inflationary pressures. Airfreight throughput was down 4.8 percent year on year at 1.85 million tonnes. Changi’s top five air cargo markets for 2022 (in order) were China, Australia, the US, Hong Kong and Japan, with traffic in December slipping 17.3 percent to 153,000 tonnes. TAM Group expands in Vietnam with China Cargo
Hong Kong-headquartered GSSA, TAM Group, has opened three new offices in Southeast Asia and has embarked on joint ventures with Thailand’s GP Group and Vietnam’s TP Cargo Transport Services to launch offices in Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Kuehne+Nagel has teamed up with computer maker Lenovo to support customers in reducing their carbon footprint while shipping air freight regardless of the lane or airline. Emirates to add belly capacity from MEL next month
Emirates is looking to restore its pre-pandemic capacity to Australia with the resumption of passenger services to Sydney and Melbourne using its Boeing-777 300ER. Melbourne Airport CEO, Lorie Argus, said the added passenger services will provide additional freight opportunities into Asia and the Middle East, with the Boeing 777-300ER capable of accommodating another 22 tonnes of belly freight.
