The Lufthansa Cargo Center atFrankfurt Airport said it posted a newtranshipment record in 2006, handlingabout 1.58 million tonnes, an increaseof around 4.5 percent on the year-earlierlevel. A total of about 2.1 millionindividual shipments passed throughthe Lufthansa Cargo Center in CargoCityNorth in the twelve-month term, theLCC said in a statement.

Lufthansa Cargo Center managerHjoerdis Stahl said: "The airfreightbusiness is and remains a strong growthindustry. Lufthansa Cargo handledabout two-thirds of the total tonnage transhipped through Frankfurt Airportin 2006." The Lufthansa Cargo Center(LCC) was opened in 1982. It is one ofthe world’s biggest airfreight transhipmentcentres. About 80 percent of allshipments airfreighted by LufthansaCargo around the globe pass throughthis logistics hub at Europe’s biggestcargo airport.
