Qantas faces the prospect of further heavy fines in possible consumer class actions following its announcement last month that it was fined US$61 million by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) to charges of price-fixing on freight rates. More than 1,000 Qantas customers could sue the airline claiming they were ripped off by the carrier. Potential damages are estimated at around A$220 million.
