Abu Dhabi is set to open its second runway and an interim terminal shortly.The second runway is 2 km from the first meaning it will be able to operate simultaneously,increasing the landing and take-offcapacity of the airport.
The interim terminal is for national carrier Etihad and can handle five million passengers a year. It will eventually be replaced by the mid-field terminal, whichis dues for completion in 2011.
At that point the airport will be able to handle 20 million passengers, with the potential for further expansion that cup to 50 million passengers in the future, shouldit be needed.
