Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN) CEO Frank Appel has announced the appointment of a new chief executive for the global mail, express and logistics giant’s ailing US DHL Express business.
Ken Allen, will move from his present role of overseeing DHL Express in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, replacing Hans Hickler who will remain within the company.
Appel restated that all options for the DHL US business were under review, but highlighted that the US market was vital to the DHL Express network and pulling out was not an option. Numerous initiatives to lower cost and boost revenue had been introduced, he stated, but economic conditions in the US were making the job difficult. Th e turnaround plan is due to be presented at the end of May 2008.
