Freighter Conversion Supplement in October issue
Although the current environment is less than rosy for the global air cargo industry, its long term potential is beyond dispute. The global air cargo market is expected to triple its growth over the next two decades, averaging 5.8 per cent annually and with the freighter fleet nearly doubling in size to 3,892 aircraft from the current 1,948 freighters, according to Boeing.
Boeing said the growth rate will meanthat a total of 3,358 freighters will enter thefleet, assuming that 1,414 freighters areretired. A significant portion of these freightersentering service are generally assumed to beconversions. But what impact will continuinghigh oil prices have on the conversion marketand how much of an impact will Boeing’s muchanticipated 777 freighter have on the conversionmarket.
