Fraport Cargo Services (FCS) has taken over cargo handling for Eritrean Airlines as of 17 April following the resumption of scheduled flights from the Eritrean capital of Asmara. To start, the
route will be served three times weekly with an A319 aircraft from Asmara via Rome to Frankfurt and back to Asmara again.
Winfried Hartmann, MD of FCS, says: “We are very pleased to welcome Eritrean Airlines back as a client. We will support our long-term partner in every way that we can with the relaunch of the route and the growth of air cargo traffic between Frankfurt and Northeast Africa.” Eritrean Airlines was established in 1991 while Eritrea became independent and has a fleet comprising five aircraft; including four A319 and A320, as well as one B767-200. At present the carrier operates flights from Asmara to Lahore, Dubai, Jeddah, Cairo, Khartoum, Rome and Frankfurt/Main, with further routes planned.
