Tigerair Taiwan has received its air operator’s certificate (AOC) issued by the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) to be the first low-cost carrier (LCC) to launch operations in Taiwan.
The start-up, a joint venture between Taiwan’s China Airlines Ltd and Tiger Airways Pte of Singapore, previously announced Singapore as its inaugural destination, scheduled for launch on 26 September 2014. It is also scheduled to launch another two or three new routes to Southeast Asia by the end of this year, with cities in Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam to be possible destinations, chief executive Yue Kwan said this month. After raising the number of its A320-series fleet to seven next year, the LCC might add routes to Japan and South Korea, aiming to break even during its second year of operations.
