TransAsia Airways flight GE235 crashed in Taipei a few minutes after it took off at 10:53 am local time Wednesday. A pilot of the TransAsia Airways Flight 235 said “mayday, mayday, engine flameout” moments before the propjet banked sharply and crashed into a river, Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration said Thursday as the death toll grew to 31 with 12 people still missing.There are 15 survivors.
TransAsia flight GE235 was a twin-engine ATR 72-600. This is the second TransAsia crash in less than a year. Rescue teams resumed the search for the missing, who include the two pilots.
Dramatic video images of the plane’s final moments in the air were captured on car dashboard cameras as the aircraft banked sharply, with its wings going vertical and clipping a taxi and highway bridge before plunging into the Keelung River Wednesday.
