UPS has announced the appointment of Nando Cesarone as president for the UPS Europe Region, Ross McCullough as president for the UPS Asia Pacific Region and Cindy Miller as president of UPS Global Freight Forwarding.
“Nando and Ross have honed their leadership skills with a broad range of assignments around the world and I know they will make a significant impact as presidents of the Asia Pacific and Europe Regions,” said Jim Barber, president, UPS International. “Like many of our executives, both of them started their careers as a package loader and driver, respectively, exemplifying our focus on leadership development and succession planning.”
Cesarone, a 25-year UPS veteran, will be responsible for all UPS operations in 56 countries and territories and more than 45,000 employees. Europe is UPS’s largest non-US region, contributing approximately half of the more than US$2 billion in international package operating profit generated over 2015. Cesarone most recently served as the president for the UPS Asia Pacific Region.
A native of Toronto, Canada, Cesarone has held several key international management positions at UPS, including country manager for Austria, Hungary and Switzerland; vice president of Operations for UPS Canada; president for North-East Europe; and president, UPS Asia Pacific. While in Asia, he expanded UPS’s presence to Myanmar, a vital emerging market, and 21 additional cities in China. He oversaw accelerated intra-Asia transit times for more than 35 trade lanes connecting 41 markets and launched new products including Trade Management Services, and China to Europe rail freight.
Cesarone succeeds Cindy Miller, who will be returning to the US as president of UPS Global Freight Forwarding. Miller has held several key executive positions at UPS, such as president of UPS South Europe and Africa, as well as similar roles in the US. She began working for UPS as a package car driver and, like many UPSers, worked her way up through positions of increasing responsibility. Prior to her role as Europe Region president, Miller served as president for UPS UK, Ireland, and Nordics and during her time there successfully coordinated the delivery of more than 30 million items for the 2012 Olympic Games. “Cindy led the Europe region through an exciting time of record business performance as well as an historic $200 million expansion of UPS’s European air hub in Cologne, Germany,” added Barber.
McCullough joined UPS in 1984, and most recently served as vice president for Corporate Strategy. As president for the UPS Asia Pacific Region, McCullough will be leading one of the fastest growing regions of the world, with responsibility for more than 40 countries and territories throughout Asia.
As vice president for Corporate Strategy, McCullough led the development of a comprehensive global vision and strategy communications platform, together with the creation and launch of a new strategic planning process. Leveraging his experience with global merger and acquisition projects, he oversaw key initiatives including significant strategic investments in the region, and established relationships with leading Asian transportation companies. McCullough also established and lead the first UPS eCommerce team.
Some of McCullough’s prior leadership assignments at UPS include US marketing manager along with a number of other key marketing roles, as well as heading up the post-acquisition integration and relationship development for Mail Boxes Etc. in the UPS Europe Region, which paved the way for the company’s successful and growing retail strategy in Europe.
