Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) tonnage grew year-on-year (YOY) by 7.1 per cent in October to 420,000 tonnes in the month. The strong growth was mainly attributed to the robust 13 per cent YOY growth in transhipments. Among the key trade lanes, traffic to and from Europe and Southeast Asia increased most significantly during the month, HKIA reports.
In the first 10 months of this year, cargo throughput grew 1.9 per cent to 3.7 million tonnes compared to previous year. On a rolling 12-month basis, HKIA cargo throughput rose by 1.3 per cent to 4.4 million tones.
Airport Authority Hong Kong general manager for airport and industry collaboration, Henry Ma said: “We are pleased to see airlines expanding to new destinations and offering more choices to travelers. This additional connectivity will reinforce HKIA’s status as an international aviation hub.”
