Liege Airport is further developing its relations with China. Air China Cargo has started a weekly flight between Liege Airport and Shanghai with a Boeing 777-200. This first weekly flight is a wonderful beginning, and they are targeting more weekly connections after the successful start up. Ground and cargo handling operations will be provided by LACHS.
For Steven Verhasselt, VP Commercial Liege Airport, the arrival of the carrier opens additional opportunities for the booming e-commerce sector: “We welcome Air China Cargo into the Liege Airport Cargo Community. We are proud to serve another national cargo carrier. We will support them in order to achieve the joint goal of expanding the operation and increasing regular flights. We also thank the Liege Airport Community for their interest and support. Air China Cargo’s team has been meeting with many of them in Liege and at the Liege Airport booth and meeting room in Munich at Air Cargo Europe. Their enthusiasm definitely triggered the early startup of the operation. With Flexpress, specifically serving e-commerce providers, and a growing number of connections with China, by Fedex, ASL Belgium and now Air China Cargo, Liege Airport is creating opportunities for exporters and importers willing to seize the opportunities offered by e-commerce to grow their business.”
With its headquarters in Beijing, Air China Cargo Co. Ltd. uses Shanghai as its main air freighter operation base and is China’s only cargo airline operating under the national flag. Air China Cargo was founded in 2003. In March of 2011, Air China Limited (Air China) and Cathay Pacific Airways Limited (Cathay Pacific) completed a joint venture freight project with Air China Cargo as the platform. They have three B747-400 air freighters, eight B777F air freighters and four B757-200SF air freighters in total.
