Mediterranean Shipping Company or MSC is responding to customer demand and complimenting its container shipping solutions with a dedicated air cargo solution.
The new solution will be available from early 2023, following the delivery of the first of four Boeing 777-200F aircraft that will be branded with the MSC livery.
Atlas Air, a subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, will operate the aircraft under a long-term ACMI lease agreement (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance). Atlas earlier in January announced the order of the four aircraft, with delivery scheduled in Q4 of this year.
To develop its air cargo business, MSC has appointed Jannie Davel, formerly of Delta Cargo, Emirates SkyCargo and DHL, to build the team that will implement it.
“This is our first step into this market and we plan to continue exploring various avenues to develop air cargo in a way that complements our core business of container shipping,” said MSC chief Soren Toft.
