Emirates and Neste have expanded their partnership with an agreement for the supply of over 3 million gallons of blended sustainable aviation fuel in 2024 and 2025, for flights departing from Singapore Changi and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
The airline’s order is considered the ‘largest volume of SAF to be uplifted’ for any airline based in the Middle East and Africa cluster.
The SAF, which will be blended with conventional jet fuel, will be supplied throughout 2024 and 2025, and will comprise over one million gallons of neat SAF, representing a blended ratio of over 30 percent.
Earlier this year, Emirates, Neste and other industry stakeholders successfully completed the first fully SAF-powered demonstration flight in the region, utilising a Boeing 777-300ER running on 100 percent SAF in one engine. The airline plans to uplift SAF for the first time from its hub in Dubai by year-end.
In May, Neste completed a €1.6 billion refinery expansion in Singapore, where the energy company has also established an integrated supply chain for neat SAF to Singapore Changi Airport for regional and international airlines.
