Japan Airlines (JAL) took delivery of its first A350-1000 from the Toulouse facility earlier this month, which the carrier plans to deploy initially on the Tokyo-New York (HND-JFK) route.
JAL has been operating the A350-900 on high-density Japanese domestic routes since 2019. Its latest delivery, the A350-1000. is considered the most fuel-efficient large widebody aircraft because of its engines, the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 turbofans, and use of lightweight materials.
The airline has ordered 31 widebodies from Airbus, comprising 18 A350-900s and 13 A350-1000s. Airbus has won 1,070 firm orders for the A350 line from 57 customers as of November 2023. The aircraft manufacturer is developing a version of the A350 with payload of up to 111 tonnes, which is expected to be available in 2027.
