Vivian Cheung appointed CEO of Airport Authority Hong Kong

April 8, 2025 by PLA Editor

The Board of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) announced the appointment of Mrs Vivian Kar-fay Cheung as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Unanimously endorsed by the AA Board and approved by the Chief Executive of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the appointment will be effective from 7 April 2025 for a term of three years.

Mrs Cheung was appointed Chief Operating Officer of AAHK in December 2022 and has been doubling up as Acting CEO since 1 June 2024. Her appointment was made after a nine-month process comprising a global search and stringent assessment of candidates from different backgrounds.

A veteran in aviation, Mrs Cheung has more than 30 years of experience in airport management, having served in various senior management roles at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), covering airport operations, information technology, Chinese Mainland airport management and business, among others. She was Executive Director, Airport Operations from 2019 to 2022, and Founding President of the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy when it was established by AAHK in 2016.

Chairman of AAHK, Mr Fred Lam said: “Vivian has a stellar career at the airport and made history by being the first home-grown CEO from within AAHK. She will lead the management team, overseeing the airport’s operation and business development. Vivian will work closely with the Board in mapping the strategic directions for the airport in the next crucial phase of its development and realising our vision of developing HKIA into an Airport City that is aimed to be an economic engine of growth for Hong Kong and the region. I am confident that with her unwavering focus and resolute professionalism, Vivian, together with her team, will take HKIA to new heights.”

Thanking the Board and the Government, Mrs Cheung said: “It is a great honour to be appointed CEO at HKIA, one of the best airports in the world. I am humbled by the task and responsibility that awaits me. The global business environment is increasingly challenging, but I am full of confidence in the future of our aviation industry. With the staunch support from the Government, Chairman and the Board, AAHK colleagues and our business partners, we shall further consolidate HKIA’s leading position and develop the Airport City as a new landmark in Asia.”

Mrs Cheung holds a Master of Business Administration from Southern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Computer Science from The State University of New York. An alumnus of Stanford University’s Executive Programme, she worked for high-technology companies in New York and Silicon Valley for many years before joining AAHK in 1992.

Mrs Cheung is a Director of the Aviation Security Company Limited Board, Chairman of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai Airport Management Company Limited, and Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Hong Kong Airport Management Co., Ltd.

Active in community service, Mrs Cheung had served as a member of the Town Planning Board and the Board of Directors of Support! International Foundation. She is currently a member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s Infrastructure Development Advisory Committee.
