Thai Airways has operated its first flight using Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel on 13 December.
The airline refueled its Boeing 777 with blended SAF at Phuket Airport for the return flight to Bangkok International Airport. The fuel was supplied by Thai oil and gas company PTT, in collaboration with Petco Trading Labuan Company Ltd, the marketing and trading arm of Malaysian energy group Petronas.
The Thai carrier is committed to achieving the wider aviation industry’s net-zero carbon emission goal by 2050, together with other stakeholders like the Airports of Thailand and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand. Across the globe, players have pledged a target of at least 5 percent SAF use by 2030, and the race is on for suppliers to scale up their production to have enough supply by then.
Neste said it is working together with partners across the value chain to raise the awareness of SAF and to increase its availability around the world.
“Neste is working together with partners such as PTT and Petco Trading to increase the availability and use of SAF, and we look forward to further growing the supply of SAF in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Sami Jauhiainen, Vice President APAC from the Renewable Aviation business at Neste.
