Family-owned logistics service provider Dachser has promoted Dr Tobias Burger as director for its air and sea logistics (ASL) unt, succeeding his predecessor Edoardo Podestà who has announced his retirement after more than 2 decades with the company.
46-year-old Burger, who started with the new role at the start of the year, joined Dachser in 2009 and had roles in controlling and strategy development, as well as corporate governance. He became Deputy Director Air & Sea Logistics in 2019 during which he was also global sales manager for the air and ocean freight division. In 2021 and 2022, Burger led the ASL EMEA operational business unit as managing director.
Burkhard Eling, CEO of Dachser said the company is convinced that future growth will come from the Asian and North American business, and Tobias’ central task is to drive further growth in these markets.
“By closely interlinking intercontinental transport and our high-performance European land transport network, we want to offer our customers a holistic solution for global general cargo services. For this ‘Global Groupage’, delivered by an integrated network with comprehensive contract logistics capabilities, we particularly need a high-performance, globally present air and sea freight organization,” noted Eling.
Edoardo Podestà: Two decades of growth and profitability
Edoardo Podestà is concluding his successful career as a logistics manager. The native Italian, who has made his home in Hong Kong for many years, came to Dachser in 2003 through the takeover of a joint venture. Initially, as Managing Director, he was responsible for Greater China, and then, as the Asian business grew, he was soon responsible for the entire Asia-Pacific business unit. Since 2019, Podestà has led the global air and sea freight business as COO Air & Sea Logistics. “Against the background of an extremely volatile market environment, Edoardo Podestà pursued a clear course with a lot of experience and creative power that was always aimed at growth and profitability,” added Burkhard Eling, paying tribute to his long-time board colleague.
