Around 6.3 million passengers flew via Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in August. This was 0.3 percent lower than during the same month last year. Nevertheless, the August numbers set a new monthly record for 2026. The two busiest days so far in 2026 were also in August, with each day seeing more than 220,000 passengers.

During the reporting month, cargo volumes (comprising airfreight and airmail) increased by 2.9 percent to 179,400 metric tons. The number of aircraft movements reduced by 4.6 percent, to 40,968 takeoffs and landings. Total maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) were around 2.6 million metric tons. This represented a year-on-year decrease of 1.6 percent compared to the same month in 2025.

Outside Germany, most airports operated by Fraport experienced growth. At Slovenia’s Ljubljana Airport (LJU), traffic increased strongly, by 19.3 percent. A total of 222,231 passengers used the Slovenian capital’s airport in August 2026. Fraport’s two Brazilian airports, Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA), recorded a combined increase of 4.9 percent to 1.3 million passengers in August. Peru’s Lima Airport (LIM) saw growth of 4.9 percent, to around 2.4 million passengers. Fraport’s 14 Greek airports were used by a total of 7.1 million passengers. This equates to growth of 5.1 percent. In Bulgaria, the two coastal airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) welcomed 875,035 passengers overall (up 2.1 percent). Meanwhile, traffic at Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera fell slightly, by 0.9 percent to 5.9 million passengers.

The total number of passengers at all airports actively managed by Fraport increased by 2.1 percent year-on-year, to around 24.1 million in August 2026.
