A Spanair MD-82 carrying 172 passengersand crew members crashed duringtakeoff at Madrid’s Barajas InternationalAirport killing 153 people on board. Theaircraft appears to have left the runwaysurface for a brief period of time beforeveering to the right and crashing intorocky terrain on the side of Barajas’ runway18L/36R.
