El Al announced recently in a filing to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange it had finalised its decision to purchase four 777-200ERs, worth an estimated US$540million.
Delivery is scheduled for three in 2012 and one in 2013. There is an option to convert the order ito -300ERs if necessary.
"The purchase of additional planes is intended to improve the airline’s competitiveness as foreign airlines increase their operations here and as demand grows for El Al’s long- and medium-haul flights,"CEO Haim Romano said.
The airline recently purchased two B777s which are used on flights to the US and Asia. In the summer of 2008, El Al is expected to take delivery of two short-haul Boeing 737-800 planes withanother three arriving in 2009.
