German global forwarder DB Schenker has announced two separate developments in Europe – the successful completion of its planned takeover of Romanian freight forwarding company S.C. Romtrans and the securing of a new major contract in Scandinavia.
In the past few weeks, Schenker said it had acquired more than 99 per cent of the Romtrans – shares traded in Romania. Romtrans is Romania’s largest forwarding company, with annual revenue of more than €90 million and approximately 1,500 employees.
“This means that the Romanian forwarder is now an integral part of DB Schenker’s international transportation and logistics network. The competition authorities in Romania, Germany, Austria and Hungary issued the necessary approval in November,” said Schenker, part of German rail and logistics group Deutsche Bahn.
The new Scandinavian business is from Scandinavian Business Seating, an Oslo, Norway-based office chairs company for a joint freight contract with DB Schenker in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The three-year contract will generate an annual freight turnover of approximately €7 million.
