After a good year in 2014 where cargo volumes grew at more than five per cent, Liège Airport is again outgrowing the market by showing an impressive growth of 13 per cent during the first six months of 2015, making it one of the fastest growing big cargo hubs in Europe. Full freighter capacity also grew by 11 per cent.
Not only are Liege Airport’s long term airline customers are showing healthy volume growth, but also airlines that joined Liege Airport in the last few years – Qatar Airways, ANA Aviation/Allied Air, Saudia Cargo.
The traffic increase is showing on all major trade lanes (Asia, Africa & Americas), but a few lanes in particular have grown significantly. For example, Turkey cargo volumes grew by 50 per cent in the first six months of 2015 and cargo to/from the Americas is up 75 per cent. Liege said the reasons for this are the opening of additional scheduled freighter flights to/from Istanbul, Mexico, Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago and New York.
“Besides being connected to all continents and having a great trucking network all over Europe the main triggers for such growth figures are the tailored services for Liege Airport’s key product groups: Live animals, perishables, pharmaceuticals, express/parcels and oversized project cargo,” the airport said.
