Is it just us or does everyone feel that this year seems to be moving a little quicker than the previous? We are already eight months into 2017 and the majority of us feel it is literally whizzing by.
Something to be excited about is the current industry trend. Having had the chance to glance through many mid-year reports, it is safe to declare that cargo demands have stayed relevant, following a solid start from the beginning of the year. This is contrary to the sentiments last year.
According to International Air Transport Association (IATA), air freight volumes have continued on an upward trajectory, with year-on-year growth of FTKs rising to 10.4% during the first half of the year – the strongest first half year since the rebound from the global financial crisis in 2010. Recorded as being the fastest pace on a rolling 3-month basis since late 2010, 66% of the development identifies with increases made toward the end of last year.
Airlines in Africa were at the top of the international FTK growth chart. A clear indication of the result from increased traffic between Asia and Africa; which compared to the same time last year, increased in number of FTK’s flown by more than 60%.
Developments in e-commerce complimented by rising consumer demands worldwide are some of the variables that directly influenced the surge in air freight. In spite of the industry depending on speed, the pattern has not reflected a huge increment in express air loads.
