Icelandair is expanding its air freight operation at Liege Airport with the arrival of its first 767-300 Boeing Converted Freighter, nicknamed ‘Grimsey‘, on December 8.
The carrier is adding 6 more flights per week from and to Liege Airport with three flights per week to New York and another three weekly flights to Chicago.
Cargo flights to Los Angeles will also be included in April 2023, with the delivery of the company’s second converted Boeing 767.
With a load capacity of approximately 49 tonnes, Grimsey carries around 50 p mercent ore freight than the airline’s two B757-200 freighters. For Icelandair, this means an increase of freight volume estimated at between 500 and 600 tonnes (in and out) per week.
Icelandair Cargo has been operating flights Keflavik from Liege Airport for years. With the new aircraft’s substantial advantage in reducing noise emissions, the airline is contributing to the important goal of airports towards noise reduction.
