DB Schenker is set to open new warehouse facilities in Ilvesvuori, Nurmijärvi. The 25,600-sqm Nurmijärvi distribution center or NDC at Ilvesvuorentie 8 has been built in accordance with the BREEAM Very Good sustainability certificate and uses geothermal heat and energy produced by its own solar panels (300 kWp).
Together with the warehouse on the adjacent site, opened in 2012, DB Schenker now has a 50,000-sqm contract logistics center in Ilvesvuori.
“Six of our previous warehouses in Finland have been awarded Eco Warehouse environmental status by our parent company Deutsche Bahn. This latest warehouse also meets these requirements.
“Our contract logistics hub in the metropolitan area, which has now doubled in size, enables us to offer a wide range of storage services conveniently located along the Helsinki–Tampere motorway E12 and opens up new opportunities for our customers’ storage needs throughout the Nordic region,” said Petteri Nurmi, CEO of DB Schenker in Nordics.
With a total investment of €13.5 million, DB Schenker will offer its contract logistics partners extensive value-added services, fast delivery times and excellent connections to the Finnish road network, the main ports and Helsinki-Vantaa airport.
The company said the facilities at the Ilvesvuori contract logistics hub can be scaled both in terms of surface area and type of facility, including the storage of chemicals.
