TAIWAN: Cargo slowdown hits Taiwanese carriers
EVA Airways Corp., Taiwan’s secondlargest carrier, posted a wider loss in the second quarter because of a slump in the island’s air-cargo demand. The airline reported a net loss of NT$1.37 billion in the three months ended June 30, compared with NT$1.07 billion a year earlier. China Airlines expects its cargo venture in mainland China - Yangtze River Express Airlines - to break even in 2008, the Commercial Times reported, citing China Airlines Chairman Philip Wei.
