S7 cancels Dreamliners
Russian airline S7 has cancelled a contract to buy 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners for delivery in 2014 and will seek to lease the planes instead. AVIC launches commercial engine company
China moved closer to its stated ambition of manufacturing a large commercial passenger aircraft with Aviation Industries of China's (AVIC), launch of its commercial engine company in Shanghai recently. AVIC President Lin Zuoming said the new venture will produce engines for a domestically produced150-seat commercial aircraft known as the "trunk liner". European aircraft maker Airbus once again took top spot in global airliner production for the sixth year running in 2008, with a 7 per cent rise in deliveries, to a record 483 planes. EADS drops US acquisition to save money
European aerospace group EADS said it had abandoned a "significant" acquisition in the US in order to conserve cash and support Airbus plane sales to crisis-hit airlines.
