April turmoil deflates Thailand’s volume
Cargo, passenger and aircraft traffic through Thailand’s six main airports continued to decline in April as political turmoil heightened by rioting in Bangkok further added to the slowdown already in process due the global economic crisis. AAT’s May throughput down 31%
Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd announced its tonnage throughput for May 2009 was 37,039 tonnes, down 31 per cent compared with the same month last year with AAT general manager, Planning & Services, Nelson Lee pointing to the opening of Fedex’s new Asia-Pacific Hub at Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport as playing a significant part in the weak tonnage performance. BAA cargo dives 21 per cent in Feb
Britain’s largest airports group saw cargo traffic plunged more than 20 per cent in February. BAA, which operates seven UK airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Edinburgh and Glasgow, said that its total UK cargo volumes had fallen by 21.4 per cent during February compared with the same month a year ago to 119,984 tonnes.
