Japan postal workers plan largest union
Two post offi ce workers' unions have agreed to merge and form Japan's largest labour union, with 220,000 members, after Japan Post is privatised on October 1. According to a Japan Times report, the 136,000-strong Japan Postal Workers' Union voted for the plan at its national convention in Naha last month. India's Industry Chamber Assocham has identifi ed about 250 post offi ces in Delhi and NCR that have vacant spaces, which can be used for cargo handling centres as well as putting up of fast food retail outlets. DP to add 600 retail outlets in Germany
Deutsche Post will open some 600 new retail outlets throughout Germany, thereby boosting the size of its network to over 13,000 locations. By the end of the year, the company will have expanded its Postpoint pilot project to the whole of Germany. Trials of this new type of retail outlet have until now been limited to the cities of Dortmund and Bonn. Canada Post defeats UPS challenge
Canada Post has defeated a North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) challenge from UPS, which alleged that the postal utility engaged in unfair competition, bringing an end to a seven year-old dispute between the two delivery companies.
