Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines have announced an order for five Boeing 777-200LRs, worth an estimated US$1.3 billion at list prices making it the largest order of the year for Boeing. With the order, Ethiopian Airlines becomes the first African carrier to order and operate the ultra-long-range 777-200LR model. AMERICAS: Air Canada raises C$1 billion in financing
Air Canada, which has been working its way out of a liquidity crisis that was threatening to push the company into bankruptcy proceedings for the second time since 2003, has raised more than one billion Canadian dollars (US$923 million) in new financing. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and GE Aviation have signed a cooperative research and development agreement to study how manned and unmanned aircraft can share commercial airspace. GE Aviation and the FAA will look at air traffic control systems that would allow commercial airliners operating under instrument rules to fly directly to their destinations.
