Alibaba’s logistics arm Cainiao launched its container booking service for air and sea freight last week, in response to the global container shortage that had driven up shipping costs to record highs. Cainiao said the service spans over 200 ports in 50 countries, and it would offer 30-40 percent lower cross-border port-to-port shipping fees against the average market rate. HKIA: Cargo stays resilient as passenger volume collapses
Hong Kong International Airport’s cargo operations is slowly getting back to the pre-Covid levels as December saw a 0.2 percent year-on-year drop in cargo handled at 443,000 tonnes. HKIA’s total cargo throughput in 2020 remained relatively stable at 4.5 million tonnes, recording a 7 percent year-on-year drop. Schiphol airport’s cargo volume slips 8 percent in 2020
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s total cargo volume for 2020 declined by 8 percent to 1.44 million tonnes compared to 2019. Last year’s freight volumes were shipped in three categories of flights, the airport noted. ST Engineering signs five-year heavy maintenance deal
ST Engineering has signed a five-year airframe heavy maintenance contract with an undisclosed air cargo carrier, effective 1 January 2021.
