Study claims new ships are less fuel-efficient
New ships built in 2013 were on average 10 per cent less fuel-efficient than those built in 1990, according to a new study commissioned by Seas at Risk and Transport & Environment. The study also shows that container ships built 30 years ago already, on average, beat the so-called ‘Energy Efficiency Design Index’ standard that the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has set for new ships built in 2020. Sri Lanka: SriLankan takes measures to cut fuel usage
SriLankan Airlines said it is focusing on sharply reducing its fuel usage to counter the challenge posed by high global oil prices. A series of fuel-saving measures has already been implemented, while more will be put in place within weeks, it said.
