Panalpina preserves profitability in Q1
International freight forwarding and logistics company Panalpina preserved profitability in the first quarter of 2016 despite the continued contraction of the global oil and gas business. The Panalpina Group reported a slight increase in EBIT and consolidated profit in what it described as a very challenging environment. Posting a rise of 15 per cent in EBIT to CHF 134.2 million (US$134.6 million) at constant currency and consolidated profit up 16.3 per cent to CHF 100.6 million (constant currency) in 2015 year-on-year. Panalpina’s board of directors has nominated Peter Ulber as the company’s new chairman for the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on 10 May 2016. He will succeed Rudolf W. Hug who has served as chairman since 2007 and does not stand for reelection due to the age limitation in the company’s bylaws. DHL to pay $53m to settle price-fixing suit
DHL Express (USA) has agreed to pay US$53 million to resolve an antitrust class action accusing the express company and others of participating in an international price-fixing scheme, according to documents filed this week in New York federal court. If approved, the settlement would allow DHL to exit the long-running litigation filed in 2008. Panalpina to acquire specialised perishables freight forwarder
Panalpina has announced it will acquire a majority stake in Airflo, a company based in Kenya and the Netherlands specialised in the export handling of flowers and vegetables. Airflo is part of Dutch Flower Group (DFG), a major flower and plant trader. The acquisition reflects Panalpina’s continued expansion in Africa and its increasing focus on the perishables business.
