As part of the on-going global investigation into price fixing within the air cargo industry, Australia’s consumer watchdog has this week started proceedings against Garuda, accusing the Indonesian carrier of participating in a global cargo fuel surcharge cartel. Martinair exec latest to face jail over price-fixing
A Dutch executive with Martinair will serve eight months in jail and pay a US$20,000 fine for his part in an international air cargo price-fixing conspiracy, the US Justice Department said. Franciscus Johannes de Jong, aka Frank de Jong, formerly the vice president of cargo sales in Europe, agreed to plead guilty to fixing air cargo rates as part of a global conspiracy that ran from 2002 to 2006, the Justice Department said. Three more carriers nabbed for price fixing
Three more cargo carriers - Cargolux, Nippon Cargo Airlines and Asiana Airlines - have agreed to pay criminal fines totalling US$214 million for their role in a global price fixing conspiracy. Additionally, Asiana was charged with fixing the passenger fares on flights from the US to Korea from as early as 2000.
