If all goes well, the Indian postal department (DoP) will be the first organisation to use radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for its express parcels and logistics posts, the Financial Express reported.
To realise its ambition, the department proposes to make huge investments in the cutting-edge technology. The department has already put forward a proposal of Rs 12,000 crore to the planning commission during the 11th Five Year Plan.
"The postal department with over 1.55 lakh post offices across India, is in the process of setting up a national data centre that would directly connect over 1,300 post offices nation-wide," a senior business development official said.
