The British International Freight Association (BIFA) has named Peter Quantrill as its new director general to succeed Colin Beaumont.
Quantrill, who has many years of experience in forwarding and transportation, began his career with Aer Lingus in operations and cargo sales, before joining Mercury Airfreight International where he became managing director.
In 1989, following Mercury’s acquisition by Rockwood, he joined Atlasair, the United Parcel Service (UPS) freight subsidiary, as managing director, assuming responsibility for all UPS activities in the UK in 1990.
In 1994, he joined Emery Worldwide as vice president EMEA and three years later was promoted to vice president and board member for Emery. When Emery was rebranded as Menlo Forwarding, Mr Quantrill became executive VP with joint responsibility for the company and a board member of the parent company Menlo Worldwide. Menlo Forwarding was acquired by UPS Supply Chain Services in 2004.
