Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd announced its tonnage throughput for May 2009 was 37,039 tonnes, down 31 per cent compared with the same month last year with AAT general manager, Planning & Services, Nelson Lee pointing to the opening of Fedex’s new Asia-Pacific Hub at Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport as playing a significant part in the weak tonnage performance.
Export cargo registered 23,613 tonnes, a decline by 36 per cent against same period last year. Import cargo volume for May was 12,878 tonnes, recording a decrease of 23 per cent from last year. Transhipment cargo volume was 548 tonnes; representing a year-on-yeargrowth of 67 per cent.
