Jan de Rijk boosts cold chain focus with Omega buy

September 22, 2015 by PLA Editor

With a distinct aroma of acquisitions in the air recently following major logistics consolidation emanating out of US-based XPO Logistics, Netherlands-based Jan de Rijk Logistics Group has scooped up fellow compatriot Omega Logistics as it seeks to expand is reach into temperature controlled logistics.
Jan de Rijk announced that from 15 September, it has acquired 100 per cent control of Omega Logistics, based in the Netherlands. Omega Logistics is a niche player with a temperature controlled distribution network to pharmacies, hospitals, patients and other healthcare facilities. This acquisition strengthens the already strong position of Jan de Rijk Logistics in the distribution of high value temperature controlled products, the company said.
“After years of strong growth this acquisition is a major step in the right direction,” says Gerard van der Weert, director of Omega Logistics. “The entrepreneurial approach of Jan de Rijk Logistics is a perfect match to our corporate culture. This next step will help us grow even further in the healthcare logistics.”
In the last few years the company has grown significantly in the healthcare logistics, added Sebastiaan Scholte, CEO of Jan de Rijk Logistics. “Omega Logistic has an excellent reputation in this market. The addition of Omega Logistics to our group will help us to bring more focus, dedication and growth in this important market.”
Since its establishment in 2011 Omega Logistics has achieved a leading position in the pharmaceutical & healthcare logistics industry with the company employing more than 20 people and controling a fleet of over 60 vehicles. Omega Logistics uses its 2,000 temperature controlled pallet locations to offer value added logistics and storage.
Jan de Rijk Logistics, based in the Netherlands, is a leading provider of transportation and distribution services, operating a large, modern and diversified fleet of 550 vehicles across Europe. The company also offers warehousing services, retail distribution and patient home deliveries. Jan de Rijk has 23 offices in 13 countries and employs more than 1,000 staff in Europe and the company also operates two daily trains between Italy and the Netherlands.
