Jettainer picks up award for 'big data' solution

October 21, 2016 by PLA Editor

Jettainer, the leading international service partner for outsourced ULD management, came in second place at this year’s German Logistics Award. The certificate was presented at the 33rd International Supply Chain Conference of the German Logistics Association (BVL), which was held in Berlin on 19 – 21 October. The jury, who selected the prize-winners from among a large number of applicants, especially recognised the company’s commitment in the field of utilising big data, artificial intelligence and expert systems.

The basis for making decisions regarding the management of the approx. 90,000 containers and pallets around the globe has been significantly improved by using a new kind of software solution, which Jettainer has developed in conjunction with the University of Cologne.
By assessing large amounts of data, the system provides the controller with support for decisions on how the ULDs can be moved in the most efficient manner in global flows of traffic. “The jury especially commended the complexity management, the cooperation of science and economy and the human-machine-interaction in Jettainer’s project,” explained Prof. Thomas Wimmer, chairman of the executive board of the BVL. This was crucial to the positive evaluation, he added.
“We’re very proud to have received this prestigious award as a medium-sized company. In the light of the huge competition with many companies applying for this popular award every year, we’re very happy to have finished in second place. Our thanks go to the complete team and our partners at the University of Cologne,” said Carsten Hernig, managing director of Jettainer, at the prize-giving ceremony, which formed part of the German Logistics Congress in Berlin.
