Qatar Cargo and DHL charter oil and energy equipment

July 4, 2017 by PLA Editor

Qatar Airways Cargo transported over 80 tonnes of oil and energy equipment on board its Boeing 777 freighter for one of its major customers DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist within Deutsche Post DHL.

The collaboration with DHL Global Forwarding inaugurates Qatar Airways first charter flight into Cabo Frio, an airport strategically located close to the most important oil region in Brazil. Through integrated planning and proper coordination between all stakeholders involved, Qatar Airways Cargo’s Boeing 777 charter successfully delivered the cargo from Zhengzhou in China to Cabo Frio in Brazil with technical stops at Doha, its hub, and Accra in West Africa.

Mr. Ulrich Ogiermann, Chief Officer Cargo said: “We are very proud to support and partner with our customer DHL Global Forwarding. Respecting the same business ethics as our customers, Qatar Airways Cargo prides itself on service excellence and customer-first values. Logistics plays a fundamental role in ensuring our customers meet their clients’ needs, and through our dedicated QR Charter solution, we were able to transport the oil and energy shipment for one of the biggest oil and gas companies in Brazil.”

Ranked the world’s third largest international air cargo carrier, Qatar Airways Cargo has made significant investments in its fleet, network, its hub and products in recent years, as part of its strategy and commitment to improve and enhance its product offering for the benefit of customers globally. Qatar Airways Cargo’s charter product performed outstandingly well, with a 150% increase in 2016-17 results, over 2015-16. The cargo carrier also performed charters for a variety of products such as horses, cattle, pharmaceuticals, odd-size shipments, oil and gas products, art, concerts and exhibitions, machinery, mining and humanitarian relief goods.

“Oil and gas is one of DHL Global Forwarding’s most important industry sectors so finding a partner like Qatar Airways Cargo, who we can trust as a shipping partner is critical,” said Roland Zach, vice president StarBroker and head of global charters, at DHL Global Forwarding. “DHL Global Forwarding and Qatar Airways Cargo have a long-standing relationship that spans close to two decades, so customers can look to both companies to deliver industry leading service excellence while always putting the customer first.”

DHL Global Forwarding established a dedicated StarBroker charter division more than a decade ago, with offices in Hong Kong, Amsterdam and Miami. Since its inception, the StarBroker global team of experts handle charters from delicate cherries, technology products to heavy mining equipment from anywhere in the world on any type and size of aircraft. Each shipment is supervised at every point in the supply chain on a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week basis ensuring on-time arrival. Research has shown remaining demand for energy and infrastructure development in the emerging countries of Asia-Pacific and Latin America. Thus, as emerging countries continue to add power generation capacities and build physical infrastructure, demand for carrying machines and equipment that enable mining, will recover.
