Vietjet won the “Vietnam Brand, Global Impact” award at the recently concluded PR Newswire Awards 2020, a press release stated. The awards event recognised Vietjet for expanding its flight network and Vietnamese brand name across the globe.
In 2019, thirty-four new routes were launched, increasing the flight network to 139, including 44 domestic and 95 international routes, the company shared in an earlier statement. The airline also carried more than 25 million passengers, reaching a total passenger count of 100 million.
Speaking at the awards, Vietjet Group’s Vice President Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh said, “With the mission of constantly expanding our flight network across Asia and boosting trade activities globally, Vietjet has been an ambassador by bringing Vietnam to our international friends and contributing to global tourism and economic development. We’re able to achieve these goals thanks to our expanding network of over 200 routes with more than 100 million passengers transported to date and many large-scale business deals signed with international partners as well as tens of thousands of jobs created in Asia, Europe and America.”
According to Vietjet’s 2019 results released in June, audited air transport revenue jumped 22 percent to VND 41,252 billion (around US$1.8 billion) and profit before tax climbed 27 percent to VND 3,869 billion (approximately US$166 million) compared to 2018. Meanwhile, the company’s consolidated pre-tax revenue and profit in 2019 were VND 50,603 billion (around US$2.2 billion) and VND 4,569 billion (approximately US$196 million), respectively.
Moreover, 2019 saw the carrier as one of the top-ranking airlines globally in terms of ancillary revenue over total revenue ratio, with ancillary revenue soaring 36 percent compared to 2018 at VND 11,340 billion (approximately US$487 million). The portion of ancillary revenue from the airline’s total air transportation revenue also increased from 25.3 percent in 2018 to 30.4 percent in 2019.
The airline earlier said that it aims to break even for its air transport business by the end of 2020 by renewing its focus on cost-optimising solutions, such as fostering its cargo service, aircraft purchase, diversifying credit loan solutions and expanding self-serving ground operation.
