Cargolux has launched a new frequency to Shenzhen, the airline’s 6th destination in mainland China. 

The latest addition to the cargo carrier’s extensive network comes as the airline tries to meet growing customer requirements whilst also exploring additional market opportunities.

The weekly cargo flight is routed Luxembourg-Bangkok-Shenzhen before returning westbound to Luxembourg via Bangkok with an additional stopover in Budapest. 

Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZX) is China’s 4th busiest (data from Civil Aviation Administration of China) and the world’s 24th busiest cargo airport (data from Airports Council International). The weekly all-cargo flight is expected to further strengthen Cargolux’s footprint in the area. 

“Shenzhen is an important commercial gateway and this new frequency will allow us to better connect with customers in the region. This additional service between Europe and China will also offer seamless main-deck capacity between these two commercial centers,” said Domenico Ceci, EVP for sales & marketing. 

The maiden flight marks the beginning of a regular service between Luxembourg and Shenzhen but the history between Shenzhen Airport and Cargolux goes back several decades. 

In November 1992, Cargolux was the first foreign airline, cargo or passenger, to land at the Chinese airport.
