Lufthansa Cargo heads into winter with upgraded e-booking portal

Lufthansa Cargo has upgraded its online booking portal with a three-step process to make it even easier to secure cargo slots heading into winter given the expected surge of shipments during peak season.

The new platform comes with an integrated carbon calculator to give customers the option to offset the CO2 emissions caused for shipping their cargo. To make a booking, customers just need to define the shipment, choose the product and confirm the route, and the system will make automatic suggestions and suitable options before calculating a price that can be booked directly.

With the new booking portal, the cargo carrier is working towards the transformation in the air cargo industry by upgrading its digital services. The portal works in tandem with its RapidRateResponse for dynamic pricing and digital PreCheck for shipments.

“Most of our customers already book online. With the new eBooking we are improving the usability for our customers,” explained Dorothea von Boxberg, Lufthansa Cargo chief commercial officer.

The cargo airline said it has taken a decisive step forward in digitally mapping the entire supply chain and separating the data flow from physical freight traffic.

Lufthansa Cargo recently started its winter schedule on 25 October to serve multiple destinations from its home hub in Frankfurt (FRA).

Between Europe and Asia, the cargo carrier is operating an average of 35 freighter connections a week. Primary focus is on Shanghai (PVG), Seoul (ICN), Tokyo (NRT) and Hong Kong (HKG).

Also scheduled are Beijing (PEK) and Chengdu (CTU), as well as several destinations in India, including Mumbai (BOM), Hyderabad (HYD), Chennai (MAA) and Bangalore (BLR). Osaka (KIX), Bangkok (BKK), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Tashkent (TAS) wrap up the scheduled cargo flights between Europe and Asia.
