GA Telesis Engine Services has received certification from the Indonesian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to overhaul CFM56-5B/7B and CF6-80C2B engines.

This will allow GATES to develop and expand its customer base in Indonesia and open a key access to the MRO market for CFM56-5B/7B engines in Southeast Asia.

The CFM56-5B/7B, manufactured by Safran, GE Aviation joint venture CFM International, is ideal for narrowbody aircraft like the 737-400, which have been seeing more orders for freighter conversion, like the 737-800. Its major applications also include the A320, A340 and other B737 aircraft.

The CF6-80C2B engine model, manufactured by GE Aviation, powers the quad-jet B747-400 widebody, and is one of two engine options for the 767-300 twin-jet, widebody.

The company already secured certification from the FAA (United States), EASA (European Union), TCCA (Canada), CAAC (China), GACA (Saudi Arabia), DGAC (Mexico), ANAC (Argentina), and ECAA (Egypt).

“We are very excited about the new opportunities the regionally recognized DGCA certification provides our shop,” commented Russ Shelton, president, engine strategy group. “Over the past several months, we’ve been receiving active inquiries from Indonesian airlines to support their engine maintenance needs,” said Avinash Singh, business development director for GATES in Asia Pacific.

“We are honored to receive this milestone approval from DGCA, especially amid the Covid 19 pandemic. This certification is a vital cog in GA Telesis’ new Asia Pacific ecosystem created to serve customers in the fast-growing APAC engine MRO market,” he added.

GATES provides comprehensive commercial aircraft engine services including repair and overhaul services for General Electric and CFM International engines with the capacity to overhaul up to 200 engines per year, according to its corporate website.
