HAECO and Rolls-Royce achieve engine milestone
Rolls-Royce and HAECO joint venture HAESL celebrated an important landmark in July 2021 after having tested 5,000 Rolls-Royce engines since it started in 1997. Earlier this year, HAESL achieved another milestone after completing repair and overhaul work on 150 Trent XWB engines since the service was launched in 2017. The company estimates around 250 engines, used primarily for the A350, processed through its facility this year.
IAG Cargo sets record quarter
IAG Cargo sustains a confident outlook for its business as it reported strong Q2 revenues of €419 million in Q2, up 17.3 percent versus the same period last year. Despite yields down 32.1 percent versus last year give more capacity with passenger flights resumed, sold tonnes were up 56.2 percent. In Q2, the airline celebrated its 10-year anniversary and partnered with Kuehne+Nagel to source 1.2 million litres of sustainable aviation fuel, enough to power 16 flights across the Atlantic.
Boeing assists flood relief efforts in Germany
The Boeing Company last week announced a €500,000 donation to the American Red Cross to assist with flood relief efforts in Germany. Funds will be deployed by the German Red Cross to provide emergency power, distribute emergency relief supplies, improve communication infrastructure and mobilize medical care, first aid and rescue services after the country experienced one of the heaviest flooding in recent years.
Volga-Dnepr to review MC-21 freighter version
Last week during MAKS 2021 in Zhukovsky, Russia, Volga Dnepr together with leading manufacturers discussed a plausible freighter version of the new generation passenger plane MC-21-300, developed by Russian aircraft manufacturer Irkut Corporation. The idea comes amidst emerging demand for air cargo amidst capacity constraints and ‘surge’ in worldwide cargo volumes.
DB Schenker acquires Finnish logistics group Vähälä Yhtiöt
DB Schenker is looking to further expand its footprint in Finland after closing a deal to acquire Finnish logistics group and long-time partner Vähälä Yhtiöt. The acquisition will see five terminals and more than 260 employees join DB Schenker’s network. The family-owned logistics group, founded in 1937, offers domestic land transport services in central and northern Finland.
TAP Air Cargo starts offering capacity on CargoAi
Portugal-based airline TAP Air Cargo will now offer its capacity on CargoAi. The Lisbon-headquartered airline will roll out initially in France, followed by the United States, with full worldwide services slated to be available at the end of August. Freight forwarder customers can request e-quotes and make e-bookings via CargoAi for the 90 destinations in TAP Air’s network.
Volga-Dnepr partners with leading Russian aerospace university
Volga Dnepr has inked a strategic partnership with the Russian university Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI), known in the field of aerospace training, during MAKS 2021 last week in Zhukovsky. Both parties will conduct research and evaluation works and support training for both young and experienced specialists as part of joint educational programmes. Volga-Dnepr employs more than 20 alumni from MAI, the airline group said.
