Saudi’s latest airline Riyadh Air on 14 March announced a multi-billion deal with US manufacturer Boeing with an order of up to 72 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner airplanes.
This unprecedented order coming from the new airline, comprising 39 confirmed aircraft with an option to acquire 33 more of the same type, could reflect a strong signal of Saudia Arabia’s intent to become a global aviation hub.
The new airline was officially launched earlier last week and could serve as a lever to help fulfill Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives. Riyadh Air said it aims to operate one of the newest and most sustainable airline fleets in the world, whilst meeting the most stringent noise regulations.
The 787-9 provides the longest range of the 787 family of airplanes, flying approximately 300 passengers 7,565 nautical miles (14,010 km), with additional cargo capacity. It offers a total of 36 LD3 positions or capacity for 12 pallets, depending on requirements, Payload Asia learned.
