Vienna Airport is set to hold its inaugural Vienna Cargo Day on 9 October as the airport looks to provide a platform for regular discussions on current issues like sustainability and digitalisation.
The event promises to gather the local cargo community and transport companies from Austria, as well as air freight specialists from neighbouring Eastern European countries and Central Europe. One of the highlights during the event will be the official launch of the new Air Cargo Academy at the Vienna AirportCity.
Sustainability and digitalisation will be the key topics at the cargo day event, including a speech by Prof. Sebastian Krummer, Head of the Institute for Transport and Logistics Management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, who will discuss the possibilities of hydrogen and emission-free supply chains.
Following the cargo day event, Vienna Airport will open its doors as the 2023 host of FlyPharma Europe 2023 at the Vienna AirportCity on 10-11 October 2023, offering a sneak peek to the state-of-the-art pharmaceutical processing facilities amongst other attractions.
Vienna Airport has made extensive investments in its logistics infrastructure, positioning itself as a global cargo gateway for Central and Eastern Europe and an important hub for the transport of pharmaceutical products thanks to its Pharma Handling Center (VPHC) and competence centre for handling temperature-sensitive air cargo.
Wolfgang Scheibenpflug, senior vice president for real estate and landside management at Vienna Airport, said the airport has still a lot to do, particularly in implementing sustainable practices and innovative technologies when it comes to real estate development.
“We still have unused capacities available at Vienna Airport for further business location projects,” Scheibenpflug noted.
