Teleport partners with Avalon Airport Melbourne, strengthens Oceania network with new Australian hub

August 13, 2026 by PLA Editor

(L-R) Pete Chareonwongsak CEO of Teleport & Ari Suss CEO of Avalon Airport Melbourne.

Teleport, Capital A’s logistics venture and leading Southeast Asian eCommerce logistics specialist, and Avalon Airport Melbourne (Avalon Airport) have signed a partnership agreement to establish Avalon as Teleport’s latest strategic operations hub in Victoria, Australia. The agreement strengthens Teleport’s air network reach to better support cargo and eCommerce movement between major Asian trade lanes and Oceania through Avalon’s dedicated air freight infrastructure.

Teleport currently moves cargo into primary Australian airports, namely Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth, from key Asian origin markets including China Mainland, Hong Kong SAR, India, Malaysia and Vietnam. Establishing Avalon Airport as a strategic operations hub marks the next phase of Teleport’s global network expansion across Oceania, the Middle East, and Europe alongside its airline partners.

Avalon Airport’s role as Victoria’s alternative international freight gateway is a major milestone in its cargo strategy.. The new hub will enable faster and more efficient movement of international e-commerce shipments into Australia. In 2025, Australians spent nearly AUD 19 billion on online platforms, growing 13 per cent year on year. It will support Teleport’s growing customer portfolio, including major e-commerce marketplaces in China, by providing faster and more reliable access to Australian consumers.

Pete Chareonwongsak, Chief Executive Officer of Teleport, said Avalon Airport offered the right fit for Teleport’s growth plans.

“Establishing our latest strategic operations hub at Avalon Airport Melbourne is a deliberate move to strengthen the Teleport Network in Oceania. Cross-border e-commerce requires rapid, specialised processing, and our customers need faster, more reliable connectivity. Avalon Airport is the right fit because it delivers curfew-free capacity processing, fast turnarounds and the flexibility to handle eCommerce alongside general cargo,” he said.

“This partnership is a clear win-win: Teleport brings strong e-commerce volume and regional network reach, whilst Avalon Airport provides the dedicated infrastructure needed as a stronger freight gateway for Victoria. Our proven history of scaling throughput across primary hubs like Kuala Lumpur, and secondary hubs like Don Mueang, and Phuket in Thailand and Bali in Indonesia, gives us full confidence in the massive potential this partnership will deliver for the region. We believe secondary hubs are a proven engine for air cargo growth,” he added.

Ari Suss, Chief Executive Officer of Avalon Airport Melbourne, said the partnership demonstrated the airport’s growing role in international freight and logistics.

“This partnership with Teleport is a significant step forward for Avalon’s international cargo strategy and our ambition to become a leading freight and logistics gateway,” Mr Suss said.

“Teleport has chosen Avalon because we can offer the capacity, speed and flexibility needed to support a fast-growing e-commerce network. Together, we are building a long-term logistics partnership that will strengthen international trade connections and create new opportunities for Victoria.”

The partnership leverages Avalon as an alternative international freight gateway capable of supporting high-growth eCommerce logistics as international freight volumes from China and Southeast Asia continue to expand. It also has the potential to diversify Australia’s freight capacity, strengthen Victoria’s international trade links and support continued growth in the state’s logistics sector. Teleport expects to kick-off phase one of operations in the second half of 2026, initially moving e-commerce volumes from China into Avalon.

Since it was founded in 2018, Teleport has scaled its infrastructure and asset-light Teleport Network® to rank #1 within Southeast Asia and #9 in Asia by volume (WorldACD). Teleport Network today reaches across over 290 cities in 80 countries across Asia Pacific and beyond, working with more than 55 partner airlines.
