CharterDesk puts aerospace transport on the fast track

October 27, 2026 by PLA Editor

CharterDesk is developing its aerospace transport business by combining dedicated aircraft charters with courier and scheduled flight options to support airlines, manufacturers and maintenance providers. The Budapest, Hungary-based company handles movements ranging from small operationally critical components to aircraft engines, selecting transport around the cargo, delivery deadline and handling requirements.

Aircraft on Ground (AOG) shipments form an important part of this activity. However, CharterDesk also supports planned maintenance and production movements, where reliable delivery helps customers maintain schedules and coordinate engineering work. Across both categories, the company focuses on matching the transport solution to the operational requirement.

Its aerospace remit covers aircraft engines, landing gear, avionics, spare parts, tooling and structural components. Each shipment presents a different combination of weight, dimensions, value and urgency. Moving an engine requires different aircraft capacity and loading arrangements from transporting a small replacement component that an engineer needs to release an aircraft.

“Aerospace transport starts with understanding what the customer needs to achieve and how quickly the shipment must arrive,” says Emir Özdabak, Managing Director of CharterDesk. “We assess the cargo and deadline before recommending a dedicated charter, an On-Board Courier or Next Flight Out service. The objective is to minimise downtime or keep production moving.”

That assessment extends beyond finding available aircraft space. CharterDesk examines packaging, loading equipment, aircraft suitability and customs requirements alongside collection and delivery arrangements. A flight can meet the requested schedule only if the wider operation supports it, making coordination between the customer, airline and ground handlers central to execution.

For larger components, preparation can determine whether an urgent movement proceeds as planned. Engines need suitable transport arrangements and compatible handling equipment at the departure and arrival points. Smaller shipments present different challenges, particularly when tight connections, customs processes and final delivery must align with an immediate maintenance requirement.

CharterDesk demonstrated that approach when it arranged the movement of two CF6 aircraft engines from Helsinki to Casablanca aboard an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 777 freighter. The company completed delivery within 48 hours of receiving the confirmed requirement, coordinating the transport with its airline and ground-handling partners.

The principal challenge involved sourcing and positioning the required 20-foot pallets in Helsinki before departure. Securing the aircraft therefore represented only part of the task. CharterDesk also had to ensure that the equipment needed to prepare and load the engines reached the departure airport in time.

“The Helsinki operation showed how much depends on preparation on the ground,” Ozdabak says. “We needed the right pallets in position before departure and worked closely with our partners to make that happen. Delivering the engines within 48 hours required everyone involved to work to the same operational timetable.”

In another engine movement, CharterDesk arranged an Antonov An-12 operation from Brussels to Istanbul carrying a LEAP-1A engine. Together, the two assignments illustrate the need to assess each movement individually, taking account of the engine, available aircraft and practical requirements at both ends of the route.

Security runs through that planning process. CharterDesk considers the shipment’s value, sensitivity and handling requirements, then works with airline and ground-handling partners to establish appropriate arrangements. Clear handover procedures and shipment monitoring help the company maintain control as cargo passes between the organisations responsible for its journey.

Confidentiality adds another consideration for projects involving commercially sensitive information. CharterDesk limits customer and shipment details to those involved in the operation while meeting the disclosures required by regulators. This approach allows the company to protect confidential information without obstructing the documentation and oversight needed to move cargo.

“Our customers need confidence in how we handle both their equipment and their information,” Ozdabak says. “We agree clear handover procedures, monitor shipments and share operational details with the people who need them. Where a project requires confidentiality, we maintain that discipline while fulfilling every required regulatory disclosure.”

CharterDesk receives aerospace enquiries every week, covering planned production shipments, maintenance support and urgent AOG requirements. Requests can come from airlines, maintenance providers, manufacturers and specialist freight forwarders. Repeat relationships help the team respond efficiently, although familiarity with a customer never removes the need to assess the shipment and its deadline.

The company sees opportunities as fleets and maintenance requirements grow. Its service mix gives customers several ways to respond: a dedicated charter can accommodate an engine or oversized component, while On-Board Courier and Next Flight Out services can support smaller urgent parts. The decision rests on urgency, cargo size and available capacity.

“Aerospace fits our team’s experience and the airline relationships we have developed,” Ozdabak says. “A quick, coordinated response can directly affect a customer’s operations, whether we are supporting an urgent AOG requirement or a planned movement. Offering charter, courier and scheduled flight solutions allows us to build the response around each shipment.”

CharterDesk intends to develop long-term relationships around that flexibility. Its aerospace focus brings technical assessment, partner coordination and transport choice into one process, helping customers move valuable equipment against demanding deadlines. The commercial proposition centres on delivering components when and where customers need them, with the preparation necessary to complete each movement.
